Dagmar and Max
Max is a beautiful German Shepherd with one floppy ear. For me, it was love at first sight! He is so affectionate and can't get enough attention and loving. He just likes to hang out with people. Other than that, I think his favorite activity is going for a walk. When he goes in the dog yard, he just hangs out in the shade, rolls around in the grass, or cools off in the pool. He is always up to a game of fetch, too, if it isn't too hot. Overall, he is really easy going.

Max must be the dog with the biggest personality at SAFE. He knows how to charm a walk out of John, the dog walker, every time he's here to walk the dogs. Actually, one day I saw him take out Max twice!! Max also knows how to charm his way behind the front desk in the lobby and just hang out with Mary for hours - knowing he will get lots of attention there and he can cool off in the AC.

If you are looking for a laid back, relaxed, easy-to-walk, loving dog who will be your best friend forever, please consider Max. He is waiting for you!

Recycling Continues at SAFE

Have you happened to have noticed the new recycling bin in the parking lot in front of SAFE? We are collecting newspapers as well as magazines and ask that you join us in this effort!

We are also continuing to recycle printer cartridges at the shelter (the collection basket is on the desk in the front office). Thanks to the many individuals and businesses who have helped make this program a success, including our friends at St. Johns River State College who recently jumped in to help!
Our sincere thanks to Charles and Jennifer Nau for yet another washing machine donated to SAFE!

Rock 'N Roll 4 Rescues Coming on Oct. 8th!

Safe Animal Shelter will be hosting its 19th Annual Dinner and Auction on Oct. 8 at the Thrasher-Horne Conference
Johnny Van Zant
Johnny Van Zant
Center. Our single-most important fundraiser of the year, historically representing approximately one-fourth of our annual budget, the Rock "N Roll 4 Rescues event promises to be a rockin' good time and a fabulous night for the animals!  Appropriately, our Honorary Chairperson this year is Johnny Van Zant

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include both Silent and Live Auctions, along with a delicious dinner donated by Managing Partner, Sarah Galen, of Longhorn Steakhouse on CR 220! Adult beverages will be available and well-known local auctioneer, Jan Burgess, has volunteered her services to keep the bidding going fast and furious for our furry friends! Our dinner will be topped off with Rock 'N Roll-themed cakes for dessert by cake expert, Elaine Atchison.

Auction items have started to come in, including a hotel stay at the luxurious Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas, local dog and cat boarding certificates, restaurant and golf certificates, hair salon services, car maintenance, horseback riding lessons, and the list will get larger and larger by the time we report again next month!  Just stay tuned!

Rock "N Roll attire is encouraged at the event, but, of course, not required.

To donate items for our auction, to advertise in our program book, or to buy tickets to the event, please call or visit the shelter at 276-7233, or contact Chairperson Linda Carr at lp49@bellsouth.net or Co-Chairperson Jerry Booth at jbooth1067@yahoo.com. The shelter is open every day except Thursdays and Sundays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Tickets (at a cost of $50 per person) may also be purchased through www.PayPal.com with payment made to Admin@safeanimalshelter.com.  The shelter will receive notification of your payment and mail you your tickets.

The Shelter would love to see a huge outpouring of support at the event, and we hope to see you there! Again, our deepest thanks to Longhorn Steakhouse for its much-appreciated generosity. We'll be supplying more details in next month's newsletter!

Dog/Car Wash a Big Success!

David and His Team
David Lyons, a "washed Scooby," and valued volunteers
The sky may have appeared overcast, but the enthusiasm was abundant at the shelter's recent Dog and Car Wash held on July 16th! Chaired by David Lyons, the fun-filled event got underway with many valued volunteers on hand and a steady stream of cars and canines to be washed.  The event not only grossed $444.00 in support of our mission, but brought back many former residents of the shelter and new friends as well!

Many thanks to David and his team (including the folks from Starbucks at Eagle Harbor)!

Dog Wash

Car Wash
Along with canines, even the cars got a cleaning!

Hooter's Hosts Night of Fun!

Hooter's on Wells Rd. was the place to be on Saturday night, July 16th!  Donating $1 for every ten wings sold, (for a total donation of $100), SAFE supporters showed up for the cause and a great night was had by all!

Thanks to Anita Dolpp and Hooter's Promotional Coordinator, Justine Spells, for putting this all together!  We hope to do it again soon.

Hello!

Miss Mona
Miss Mona
I just wanted to share a couple of photos of my "babies" with you. My kitty, Miss Mona, came to me as a stray, very thin, young and starving. Just look at her now!

The second is of my baby girl, Casey. She is my nine-year-old Sheltie, and the love of my life.

Garfield

Garfield is almost five years old, and is a male orange/white Domestic Shorthair/Mix. The name certainly fits, doesn't it?!
