Kim and Ruthie
|
Staff Pick
by Kim Noyer
Ruthie came to the shelter as a puppy and was quickly adopted. She returned, however, a year later when she was found running along Hwy 17. Unfortunately, her adopters were not able to be located.
Ruthie is often overlooked now because, at 3 yrs. old, she is no longer a puppy. She is a wonderful dog, though: housebroken, calm, and well-mannered. Although she does like to jump up and give you hugs and kisses, she doesn't overpower you.
If someone would just take the time to get to know Ruthie like we have, I am certain that they would fall in love!

Thank You!
The Lake Asbury Jr. High School Honor Society and Jami Shimer, NJHS Advisor, came to the Shelter on March 18 and performed both yard work and landscaping. All our staff, volunteers, and furry residents send a huge THANK YOU!
Another note of gratitude: SAFE asked the community last month for dog and puppy chow and you delivered! Thanks so very much; the donations filled our food pantry!

Reinhold Foundation Honors Sonja Loeb
|
| Sonja Loeb Receives Reinhold Foundation Outstanding Volunteer Award from Jeff Bryan, Trustee |
Safe Animal Shelter is proud to announce that Sonja Loeb received the Paul & Klare Reinhold Foundation's Judges' Choice Volunteer Award at the 2011 Celebrate Clay Awards Presentation on May 17. The event was held at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center. As a result of Sonja's dedication, hard work, and subsequent selection for this award, the shelter received a check for $2500 to further its mission.
Safe Animal Shelter's Volunteer of the Year in 2010, Sonja raised an unbelievable $25,000 by promoting the Shelter day after day at various locations throughout the community.
Our thanks to former Shelter Manager, Lara Hudson, for recommending Sonja for this prestigous award. Sonja is most definitely a deserving recipient and we are deeply grateful for all her efforts and accomplishments. We, and all our furry friends, love you, Sonja!

June is Adopt-A-Cat Month
As part of its ongoing effort to promote cat and kitten adoptions, the American Humane Association has created Adopt-A-Cat Month which is held annually in June. It is around this time that shelters are asked to find homes for an unusually high number of cats and kittens in deperate need.

Sassie is a small, black and white Domestic Shorthair/Mix with adorable markings. She is approx. 8 yrs. old and is looking for someone to love.

|
|
Ice Cream is a small, white Domestic Shorthair/Mix, approx. 3 yrs. old, and has been at the shelter for over a year. Ice Cream is deaf, and totally deserving of a "forever home."
|
Safe Animal Shelter is pleased to participate in this campaign, and welcomes visitors to the cattery any time the shelter is open (11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except on Sundays and Thursdays). In addition, to promote adoption of certain harder-to-adopt felines, "Senior Snuggle Sessions" are held each Tuesday from 11 to 5 which encourage social interaction with cats who have been residents of the shelter for an extended period of time.
If you come to the shelter and are interested in adopting one of our feline friends, please ask about special rates which can be made available for qualifying individuals. All adopted cats will have had the FPRC vaccine, Fel. V/FIV test, spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations, if appropriate.

Letter to the Editor:
Dear SAFE,
In November of 2009 I walked into the shelter with my grandmother to find myself a furry companion after mourning the death of my 12-yr.-old Dalmation for 2 years.
As I made my way past each dog I grew weary and

Ginger

thought that I wasn't going to find the right one for me. That is, until I saw my Ginger, a whippet and beagle mix. I fell in love with her immediately and HAD to have her!
I have kept her name as Ginger because it fits her perfectly. I'm so thankful for her and her quirky antics, and wouldn't have her any other way.
Thank you so much for the sweetest dog in the world. She has a wonderful life now and spends her days napping and playing. Her nights, however, will find her sleeping right next to me on her own pillow!
