Applications for adoption are required for all animals and are subject to approval based on the information provided on the application form. Missing or incorrect information will automatically cause the application to be denied. All applications must be completed at Safe Animal Shelter. You must be at least 21 years old to apply. Applications can take 2 or more working days to process. We will take more than one application on an animal. Applications are not considered on a "first-come" basis, but rather on what will be the best match for our adoptable cat or dog. Only approved applicants will be contacted regarding their application. If your application is approved, you must take the animal for a wellness visit within 7 days after you adopt.
Pet MatchingBringing a new family member home is a huge decision and so many factors can make the process a rewarding success or a failure. You must make not only a financial commitment but also one of time. Our policy is to ensure a proper match between the selected animal(s) and applicant(s) considering past pet history, vet reference checks, living environment, working hours, lifestyle, etc. Safe Animal Shelter exists to ensure dogs and cats find their forever homes so that they may receive the care and attention they need. Know that often when appropriate care and attention is not provided, only then will undesirable behaviors arise.
Also, while puppies and kittens are very cute, please consider all options first. A more mature dog or cat just may fit your lifestyle better. We have cats that have been with us for years, but kittens are adopted very quickly. At the county animal control shelters, adult cats and dogs are euthanized much more often since they aren’t adopted as fast.
Our Adoption fees include all shots to date, spay-neuter and heartworm/feline leukemia tests. Dog fees include a microchip. Cats must be taken home in a pet carrier.
Many of the pets may also be eligible for 30 days of pet insurance. Be prepared to also purchase anything necessary for your new pet at home, such as appropriate bedding, crate, training pads, food, medicines, flea & heartworm prevention, litterbox, litter, toys, etc. Regardless, a forever friend is well worth the investment!
