Welcome To Safe Animal Shelter..

~ Mission Statement ~

Safe Animal Shelter is a not-for-profit "no kill" shelter. Our mission is to provide a temporary home for lost, abandoned, and abused dogs and cats in our area until a good permanent home can be found.

"A Home Until They Find A Home"

HISTORY:
Safe Animal Shelter has operated as a limited capacity "no kill" facility in Clay County, Florida since 1991. Over the years, Safe Animal Shelter has placed literally thousands of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens into loving permanent homes. We are dedicated to finding homes that consider an adopted pet a permanent member of their household and will interact with and treat their pet like any other member of their family.

When space is available, pets are taken in from a variety of sources such as Clay County Animal Control, Jacksonville Animal Care and Control, Jacksonville Humane Society, and private citizens who have either found a stray or cannot keep their pet due to allergies, relocation, financial issues, etc.

When an animal is accepted into the shelter it is examined by one of our partner veterinarians, who donate their time and expertise to the shelter. They provide examinations and administer vaccinations and treatment protocols for any animal in need. Each animal is vaccinated against contagious disease, dewormed, cleaned up and treated for any medical needs before being made available for adoption. More importantly, each animal is spayed or neutered prior to adoption or as soon as the animal is healthy enough to undergo the procedure, usually between the ages of ten to 12 weeks.

Our facility consists of 31 kennels with outside runs and 9 stainless cages for Dogs. It has three 8 x 12 cat rooms with screened outside patios, and several stainless steel cages in the cat holding and quarantine areas. We typically house 40-50 dogs and 60-70 cats at any given time.
